RELANDSCAPING OF A NURSERY PLAYGROUND

The theme in this Nursery School Project was to turn a very open and predominantly asphalt hard landscaped playground into an “Exciting Outdoor Living and Learning Area:" a form of a Lush Nursery Play Oasis offering exciting and secret areas, with Nursery School Planting and natural shade from a variety of fruit trees and ornamental seasonal trees.- See the Original Design Plan

“Soothing Sensory Planting Areas” were strongly featured as well as “Nursery School Vegetable and Fruit Gardens”.

School Playground Designers took careful note of the Head’s requirements as well as listening attentively to those of the Nursery School children, who were encouraged to draw pictures of their “Ideal School Playground”. Planting featured heavily in this Nursery Playground Design where the emphasis was on the Creation of a Sustainable and Permacultural Garden which included a variety of Nursery Play Activities, a “Magical Fantasy Nursery Pathway” and a “Nursery School Mosaic Water Feature”.

With the exception of the Nursery Playground Slide, the entire Nursery Play Garden was hand constructed, on site, from Recycled Materials, Timber from Sustainable Sources, and Nursery plants and Nursery trees grown from natural propogation methods. Shortly after completion, the Somerset Nursery School Play Garden, was visited by OFSTED Inspectors who were unanimous in their approval of this" Delightful, Quite Unique, Highly Imaginative, A Totally Evolutionary Concept, A Sustainable Childrens Paradise – A First for the Entire United Kingdom”.

Consideration was given by School Playground Designers to the “comfort of visitors” and to this end, a variety of low Nursery School Seating Areas were carefully created, in the centre and at the sides.  A further Nursery School Seating Area was created by the construction of a Nursery School Tree Seat around “a huge old Acacia tree”. Nursery School Sensory Planting was created in raised timber planters; further interesting planting was obtained by the central planting of an established Olive tree; “all year interest Nursery School Planting” was added by the installation of a beautiful Tree Fern, surrounded by dwarf Tropical Evergreen Plants.

This Nursery School Reception Garden was “entirely hand constructed”, on site, from wood from Sustainable Timber Sources and from Recycled Materials. Upon completion, the Somerset Nursery School Reception Area was visited by OFSTED Inspectors who found no faults and were full of praise for this “Superb Environmentally Friendly School Space”.
